Turley submits planning application on behalf of Westcombe Group for new hotel in Trafford, Greater Manchester
We are providing expert Planning and Economics services to Westcombe Group for the repurposing of an old office block for hotel/apart-hotel uses at 701-709 Chester Road in Trafford.
The site in its current form has limited use for neighbouring residents. Site owner, Acre Manchester Limited, part of Westcombe Group, plans to unlock fresh opportunities for its wider use through a new hotel-led and mixed-use development, which in turn will help boost the local economy.
The submitted application includes 171 guest bedrooms and 61 aparthotel bedrooms to provide accommodation for visiting tourists and workers, and benefit the local tourism industry. The application also includes a hotel-run coffee shop available for public use and two commercial units to support the growth of local businesses.
A high-quality landscaping scheme including tree planting will enhance the Chester Road corridor, including new public realm and on-site parking for hotel patrons. The development will contribute to delivering the ambitions of Trafford’s Civic Quarter Area Action Plan.
Kamal Pankhania, Group Managing Director and CEO of Westcombe Group, said:
“We are excited to be investing in this special part of Trafford. This hotel-led mixed-use development will deliver a premium set of Accor brands – a Novotel hotel and a Novotel Living apart-hotel – to attract new visitors, alongside a public coffee shop and two substantial retail units to support local business growth. We look forward to delivering this project in support of local jobs, the hospitality industry and wider economy.”
The development is projected to boost local economic productivity by £20.2 million. It will, for example, create an estimated 50 direct jobs for Greater Manchester residents in its construction phase, with an additional 75 on-site jobs in its operational phases with further jobs likely within the local tourism, leisure and hospitality sectors as a knock-on-effect. 178,000 visitors are expected to spend £15 million per annum across these sectors and more in a further boost, including £300,000 per annum for the Council directly to help support community initiatives.
Westcombe Group submitted the full planning application following extensive engagement with residents, local businesses, councillors and planning officers.
Full details of the application can be found by searching the reference number 114492/FUL/24 on the Trafford planning website.
