My work anniversary in our company’s 40th year - Emily Bell, Associate Director, Strategic Communications

During our 40th year, we are highlighting the experience and insights of co-owners who are also celebrating their milestone work anniversaries.

In 2023, Turley is marking our 40th year. We are an employee-owned business. This makes us distinctive because each employee is a co-owner, with a voice and share in our success. We are invested in each other and in the communities in which we work.

What inspired you to join Turley?

Turley stood out to me, as I felt the company values and attributes closely aligned with my own. From the Charitable Trust to co-ownership, I could see that there would be a positive culture that I was keen to be a part of. There was a flexible approach to working, and flexible hybrid working was a part of company culture before it became the ‘norm’ as a result of Covid-19. As co-owners, I think there is an environment of trust and shared commitment to the growth and evolution of the company.

What are the highlights of your role?  What do you particularly enjoy?

I work across various sectors, on a range of projects and with different clients – all with various objectives and programmes. I enjoy how varied the working day can be from week to week and always feel I can challenge and push myself to continue to learn.

How has your role changed over the time you have been with Turley?

I have gained so much experience, confidence and independence in my work at Turley. I have gone from starting as an Assistant 5 years ago, where I supported on project work, to being an Associate Director where I am leading projects, strategically advising clients and have had the opportunity to line manage members of the team.

What has kept you at Turley?  What makes Turley a special place to work?

The people. I have always felt a real part of a team in the South West and Wales, in Strategic Communications, and across all office locations where there’s always a friendly face and an opportunity to re-connect. There is always plenty of positivity, ambition and collaborative energy across the company whether it be for our projects and our clients, a charity day/event or a team social. The Strategic Communications team, and Turley more widely, has changed significantly over the last 5 years. What makes Turley a special place to work is that we are all a part of this change and this growth, with all ideas, experiences and inputs valued. It’s exciting to be a part of this and to proactively work together with our varied cross-service experience to continue to grow as a company.

How are you celebrating/did you celebrate your work anniversary?

My 5th year work anniversary at Turley coincided with my promotion to Associate Director, so I was fortunate in being able to celebrate both of these happy occasions in a sunny Bristol with family and friends.

What are you looking forward to in Turley’s 40th year?

I’m looking forward to the opportunity to connect with others from across the business to reflect on the evolution of the company over the last 40 years. The South West and Wales team are looking forward to an afternoon of punting in Bath where we can celebrate Turley’s 40th year.
