My work anniversary in our company’s 40th year – Paul White, Director, Sustainability
During our 40th year, we are highlighting the experience and insights of co-owners who are also celebrating their milestone work anniversaries.
In 2023, Turley is marking our 40th year. We are an employee-owned business .This makes us distinctive because each employee is a co-owner, with a voice and share in our success. We are invested in each other and in the communities in which we work.
What inspired you to join Turley?
I was contacted directly by the Head of Sustainability at a time when the team consisted of two people. I was impressed with their approach and ambition, and that of Turley being employee owned and the benefits that entailed.
What are the highlights of your role? What do you particularly enjoy?
Being a national service and dealing with sustainability we support a range of projects from small residential scheme, heat networks, new communities, and net zero gold mines; every week is different. The variety of work and the people in the team make for interesting work in a supportive and collaborative environment which I really enjoy. As we grow as a team and expand the services we offer this produces new challenges alongside opportunities to work with new people on exciting projects.
How has your role changed over the time you have been with Turley?
I joined Turley as a Consultant at a time when sustainability was not necessarily taken seriously by government, or parts of the industry. The changes, in particular over the last few years, are remarkable. Sustainability and climate change are now at the top of the agenda with our services in demand now more than ever. We actively look for ways to deliver exemplar developments, responding not just to political drivers, but also a groundswell of public support which sees climate change as a key issue for the future.
What has kept you at Turley? What makes Turley a special place to work?
The people - whether it is one of the Sustainability team or someone in the wider business, everyone is approachable and kind, willing to help and provide advice and support. While we offer a range of different services, the company feels like one team with one goal. The ethos employee ownership model empowers our co-owners and inspires a collaborative working approach. In my view this makes Turley quite rare and special!
How are you celebrating/did you celebrate your work anniversary?
This year is my tenth at Turley and I truly cannot believe how quickly that seems to have gone past. Turley offers a variety of benefits for those who stay longer term including additional leave and financial reward, recognising the contribution which has been made over that time. I will be putting this towards a holiday with my family and enjoying some down time!
What are you looking forward to in Turley’s 40th year?
The future! Now 40 years old Turley has a great foundation, and reputation and is ready for the future. Increasingly Sustainability and ESG are interwoven through the services the company offers and will be a core part of how the company evolves over time. I am excited to be part of the company in my position to support the growth and future of the company.
