Proposed reforms to the National Planning Policy Framework and other changes to the planning system
On Tuesday 30 July 2024, following a statement to parliament, the Government published a consultation on proposed reforms to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
The consultation will run until Tuesday 24 September 2024. The draft NPPF proposes reversals to many of the changes made in the December 2023 version of the current NPPF, and invites responses on a series of proposed reforms in order to help shape national planning policies.
Our teams have reviewed and digested the draft NPPF and supporting documents and are sharing their thoughts in a series of articles, reflecting on the detail and any opportunities and challenges arising.
The Government are also seeking views on a series of wider policy proposals in relation to increasing planning fees, local plan intervention criteria and appropriate thresholds for certain Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.
