Meet the newest members of our Sustainability and ESG team
Recently our Sustainability and ESG team has grown significantly, helping bolster our traditional services as well as diversifying the work we do. We’ve grown to a team of 14 and now work across a huge range of projects and sectors. Below we introduce our newest members.
My background
After completing my BA Geography degree, I studied MSc Sustainable Cities at the University of Leeds, which helped develop my growing interest in the intersection between the natural and built environment; many cities have been designed in ways which both degrade the environment and alienate us from the natural world. I am curious about how we can engage the built environment to enhance human and planetary wellbeing, through the use of nature-based solutions or biophilic design.
My work at Turley
I typically work on Sustainability Statements for planning applications and provide support in developing high-level ESG Strategies for projects, which enables me to be creative. I am also a Fitwel Ambassador and have a real interest in creating ‘healthy’ buildings which benefit both people and the natural world.
My background
My career in sustainability began as a graduate in 2016 when I initially trained to become a qualified BREEAM New Construction 2014 Assessor. Since then, I have seen the release of two further BREEAM manual revisions (2018 and V6) and have qualified as a BREEAM Advisory Professional and Home Quality Mark Assessor.
My work at Turley
I typically undertake BREEAM assessments on various non-residential building types and I really enjoy working long term with project teams to help them achieve their sustainability aspirations and accreditations. Alongside this, I also produce sustainability and energy statements, infographics and sustainability strategies. I always enjoy the creativity and challenge of helping to develop a sustainability strategy on a large development, especially when the client is keen on maximising opportunities for sustainability.
My background
I have a BSc in Environmental Science and an MSc in Sustainable Cites. During my MSc I particularly enjoyed using systems thinking to understand how solving sustainability-related issues often requires social, infrastructural, technological, and political changes. I am interested in how social and environmental health is linked, and I am motivated to create a world in which both people and the natural environment can thrive.
My work at Turley
I work on a variety of interesting projects including sustainability and energy statements, waste and circular economy strategies, ESG strategies, TCFD reporting, Science Based Targets, and development of a social value assessment tool. I am also an Active Score AP, which means I can provide advice to clients on what constitutes a best-in-class building in terms of Active Travel.
My background
My affection for delicate building design and concerns for climate change started my career as a Sustainability Consultant. I focus on analysing and quantifying the climate change impact made by buildings, testing buildings’ climate change resilience and provision of climate change mitigation solutions. This involves carrying out the Whole Life Cycle Assessment, Energy Assessments, overheating analysis and providing sustainability strategies.
My work at Turley
I undertake the Whole Life Cycle Assessment for various building types to measure their embodied carbon emissions associated with materials, and provide suggestions to reduce them. Balancing the function, climate change impacts and even aesthetics of materials through the assessment is the part I always find fulfilling. I regularly work on energy assessments, measuring buildings’ operational carbon emissions and setting energy strategies to minimise them.
My background
My first interest in sustainability was focused around the environmental impacts of our diets and food security in a changing climate, which led to my masters in Sustainable Food and Natural Resources. I went on to work as a Senior Sustainability Analyst for Quorn Foods which involved calculating environmental impacts, and finding opportunities to reduce these, from manufacturing sites and through product supply chains. I have now been at Turley for 18 months where I've been able to apply these same skills to analysing the built environment.
My work at Turley
Within the team I tend to work on all things carbon. This includes CarbonNeutral product and CarbonNeutral company assessments, which are part of our ESG services, for companies looking to calculate and offset their company or product life cycle emissions through our offset partner Climate Impact Partners. I'm also involved in Whole Life Carbon/Embodied Carbon assessments within the built environment, these carbon assessments are generally driven by clients’ own Net Zero ambitions, funding requirements and more increasingly as a planning requirement.
My background
I have been working in Sustainability for over three years post-graduation from my master’s degree in resource and sustainable management. My experience has been in Embodied Carbon Analysis, Energy Modelling, Carbon Offsetting and Sustainable management (BREEAM AP).
My work at Turley
I work on a wide range of developments within many different sectors, including logistic storage units, multi-residential (student accommodation and end of life care), educational and healthcare developments.
My background
I began my career in sustainability by completing a Master’s degree in Environmental Impact Assessment and Management at Manchester University in 2016. In my first job after graduation I learned about carbon accounting and was fascinated by the idea of quantifying our impact on the environment. I now focus on quantifying the GHG emissions as a result of new developments, company activities and events.
My work at Turley
I typically undertake GHG assessments and verifications in support of CarbonNeutral company/events certifications, working within various industries from small family-owned businesses to schools, global financial organisations and manufacturers. In addition, I also develop Climate Change chapters to support planning applications as part of Environmental Impact Assessment process.
