Northern Ireland Assembly elections 2022: video mini-series
With Northern Ireland’s next Assembly election just around the corner, we asked the parties’ infrastructure spokespeople to outline their priorities for planning and development in the region.
Planning and development have been in the news lately, with recent reports from both the Northern Ireland Audit Office and the Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee highlighting the shortcomings of Northern Ireland’s planning system.
In truth, these reports are just the latest in a long list of reports and reviews highlighting that the system doesn’t work as it should. Given the importance of a planning system to the economy and climate ambitions, it’s clear that whoever becomes Minister for Infrastructure faces the tough task of making significant reforms.
We spoke to the infrastructure spokesperson from each of the current Assembly parties, to see what they would prioritise if they got the job. To view their videos, please click the name below.
- Andrew Muir, Alliance Party
- Jonathan Buckley, DUP
- Rachel Woods, Green Party
- Roy Beggs, UUP
- Cathal Boylan, Sinn Féin
- Sinead McLaughlin, SDLP
In addition, we reached out to the TUV and People Before Profit but did not receive a response.
