Creation of a vision for a new Garden Community
Our role
- Following instruction by ATLAS, Turley provided support to Shepway District Council with the creation of a vision and framework for the development of a new Garden City for up to 12,500 new dwellings.
- Through a series of technical studies, workshops and meetings with key stakeholders, we developed a vision and framework that met the objectives of the client to examine the strategic feasibility and potential for a settlement of this scale in and around Folkestone.
- Working proactively with the client and design team, Turley led the production of the vision statement, which at a strategic level, identified the baseline issues alongside the potential design and technical response to address any constraints.
Results
- A key output of the process was a clear vision and framework document that articulated the economic, social and environmental benefits of the new community. This information was used to secure funding from the government to pursue a planning application.
