Supporting sustainable logistics space at J11, M42
Our role
- Mercia Park is a new logistics development providing space for JLR’s global logistics parts centre, and new centre for international logistics firm DSV.
- We provided both sustainability and economics support to the project, supporting the preparation of the Economics and Climate Change Environmental Statement Chapters, as well as a sustainability statement demonstrating the economic and social benefits of the project and how it aims to protect and enhance the environment.
- The Climate Change ES assessment included a comprehensive Greenhouse Gas Assessment of the development considering the potential benefits of consolidating DSV’s UK sites to J11.
Results
- The sustainability, climate change and economic support demonstrated that the development will provide a range of social and economic benefits to the local area, including 3,400 jobs and a contribution of £139m GVA to the local economy.
- The development has been designed to mitigate and adapt to climate change with buildings achieving, as a minimum, a 20% reduction in carbon emissions; incorporating measures to adapt to climate change including minimising the potential for overheating, reducing water consumption and creating extensive landscaping, including 30 acres of new woodland.
- In addition to the direct benefits of the development, IM have launched a £350,000 Community Fund to provide grants to community projects which strengthen communities and improve the natural environment.
- Site area: 96 ha
- Floorspace: 3,400,000 sq ft
