Bringing next generation urban living to Nottingham
Our role
- We are providing development consultancy advice to regenerate the former Central Police and Fire Station in the Royal Quarter, Nottingham.
- We are working closely with Nottingham City Council, including its property team, to understand the modern day requirements of student living in the city and to deliver a sensitively, well designed, landmark building for a key site in the city centre.
- We have undertaken a comprehensive and robust assessment of the historic environment, including listed caves, and assessed impacts on townscape to protect and maintain the historic fabric of central Nottingham.
- We are engaging sensitively with key stakeholders, including elected members, heritage bodies and site neighbours to ensure the scheme improves the surrounding area, contributes positively to the local townscape, and provides direct benefits for existing residents and the wider public.
Results
- The development will deliver 987 student bedspace – including both shared apartments and private studios – complemented by co-study suites, gyms and an 800-cover public market food hall on the ground floor. Off-site affordable housing will be provided via a financial contribution.
- Pre-application and post-submission follow up engagement with members of the Nottingham City Council Planning Committee enabled the project team to propose bold and ambitious designs in a sensitive part of the city centre, which were informed by and will appeal to the needs and expectations of the key decision makers.
- The potential to open an existing underground cave system to the public will support and grow the heritage environment and contribute to the local tourism economy in the entertainment sector-led Royal Quarter.
