£50 million investment in education and sport
Our role
- Wolves’ previous training ground was located at Compton Park and was then the smallest training facility of any Premier League club. The proposals included a new indoor training pitch (100m x 60m), as well as improving outdoor pitches and providing ancillary sport facilities in a £6 million investment to create a new single site Football Academy at Compton Park. This was needed to provide the facilities required under major new reclassification plans for academy football by the FA Premier League.
- The site was designated as green belt, which required us to prepare a comprehensive ‘very special circumstances’ case to justify the development.
- The application incorporated a site-wide masterplan prepared by our Design team to explain the redevelopment principles and phasing. This was also an essential part of the material for the associated consultation events.
Results
- The project secured permission for a remodelled school, a new single-site football academy and new executive housing at Compton Park.
- The development has been completed, delivering high-quality sports facilities, improved educational facilities and housing to meet identified local housing needs in a sustainable location.
