A new secondary school in Yardley Wood, Birmingham
Our role
- We were appointed, via Wilmott Dixon, to advise the Diocese of Birmingham on their proposed development of a new secondary school on land at Yardley Wood, Birmingham. We provided planning advice and support, as well as specialist heritage expertise, throughout the inception and planning application stages of the project.
- Our role included advising the client and the design team to ensure matters of siting, access and design reflected local planning standards and incorporated appropriate mitigation to protect interests such as amenity, ecology and highway safety. We also provided specialist heritage advice to address the proximity of neighbouring heritage assets.
- We led on the submission of a full planning application, including pre-application engagement with Birmingham City Council, supporting a number of community engagement events and liaising with key stakeholders, such as Sport England.
Results
- We secured a timely and deliverable full planning permission in accordance with the overall programme milestones. The new school is expected to open in September 2021.
- Once open, the school will provide state-of-the-art classroom facilities including a large library, performing arts studios, an inspiring chapel, a first class sports hall and all weather pitches. The site will be used by over 1,150 pupils, and will also offer facilities for use by local sports teams and community groups.
