Turley’s eastward expansion continues through Beacon Planning acquisition
We are delighted to announce that Turley has acquired Cambridge-based planning and heritage specialist Beacon Planning Ltd.
The move extends our reach in the East of England and integrates Beacon into our national network of 13 offices. The combined business will help clients maximise opportunities across the Oxford-Milton Keynes-Cambridge growth corridor and the wider East of England.
Founded in 2008 by Andy Thompson and Jon Burgess, Beacon has grown to a team of 13 based on the edge of Cambridge and working across the Eastern Region. Their planning and heritage experts operate across a range of sectors and boast an impressive client list which includes developers, housebuilders, many Cambridge colleges, universities and schools.
We have established a successful presence in Cambridge over the past 12 months and recently appointed Justine Bailey as senior planner to join director Steven Kosky and associate director Nichola Traverse-Healy. Planning director, Sid Hadjioannou has transferred from our London office to further strengthen the Cambridge team. These moves mean our new, combined team has 12 chartered planners offering integrated planning and heritage expertise and drawing on our integrated full-service offer. Meet the full team here.

Speaking about the acquisition, managing director of Turley Dave Trimingham said:
“In Beacon we have found a like-minded organisation packed with ambition and talent. Beacon shares our vision and our core values and brings a team with complementary skills and client base.
We see this amalgamation as a catalyst for further growth. We are immensely excited about developing together, and helping clients deliver their growth ambitions.”
Beacon director Andy Thompson commented:
“Beacon was built by the talent, enthusiasm and commitment of our fantastic people and now we are looking forward to taking this next step together and becoming part of Turley.”
“Turley is such a well-respected name and their employee-ownership model enables the entire company to share in success. This fits well with how we work and is a logical progression for all of our team. We can see many benefits for both our staff and clients and are delighted to be joining Turley.
Beacon’s other founding director Jon Burgess said:
“We have been fortunate to develop a diverse and loyal portfolio of clients by understanding their needs and being flexible and responsive. We are committed to maintaining the quality of our service and enhancing it through the additional expertise which Turley’s complementary services and national office network will bring.”
Turley senior director and head of heritage Roger Mascall added:
“We are delighted that the Beacon heritage team is joining our team of heritage and visual impact assessment experts. They have an impressive track record and share our positive approach to promoting and managing change to sustain and enhance the significance of our historic environment.”
