Turley helps to land one of the largest Town Deals in the UK

We are delighted to have played a part in securing one of the largest single Town Deals in the UK providing £37.5 million funding for the seaside town of Southport.

The funding award of £37.5 million was announced today in the budget  as part of over £1 billion funding for a further 45 towns in England through the Towns Fund, supporting long-term economic and social regeneration as well as immediate recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.

The funding will kick start the regeneration process and unlock a £400 million development programme in Southport including the town centre, lakefront and beachfront development sites.

Senior Director Richard Laming commented:

“This success shows what can be achieved in bidding for public funding when you undertake meaningful stakeholder engagement, devise a compelling vision for a place, nurture public-private partnership and present Government with a set of investable projects.

Commenting on the role of partnership working he said:

“The Town Deal success is the result of a year of hard work by Southport Town Board, Sefton Council and the people and businesses of the town to put forward the best case. It’s to their credit and they should be positive about the future and what they can achieve working together.”

“Bidding for the Towns Fund also helped the town to raise its profile and even led to a number of major investment enquiries being received before the Town Deal was announced today. That, in my opinion, is one of the early hallmarks of a successful regeneration plan.”

Working collaboratively with the Town Board and Sefton Council - and alongside RAL Architects and Prime Transport Planning - during 2020, we helped to run a whole-town engagement process, devise a vision and masterplan and draft the Town Investment Plan.
