Turley appoints new Head of Planning Scotland

We are welcoming Gordon Thomson as our new Head of Planning Scotland, based in our Edinburgh office.

Gordon joins from Lichfields UK where he was Planning Director. With over 20 years’ experience in the built environment and planning sector, he specialises in strategic site promotion and complex multi-disciplinary projects.

Gordon brings a wealth of experience in delivering large scale planning projects across a wide range of sectors from urban regeneration to leisure and tourism to net zero infrastructure.

In his new role as Head of Scotland, Gordon will oversee our Scotland Planning team. He will focus on growing our wide-ranging Scottish planning offer, with increased focus on the expanding net zero infrastructure and residential markets.

From our bases in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, alongside Planning, our services in Scotland include Heritage, Townscape & Landscape, Business Cases & Funding, Economics, Design, EIA, Expert Witness, Strategic Communications and Sustainability & ESG.

Speaking about Gordon’s appointment, Senior Director, Peter Lawson, said:

“Having been active in Scotland for 35 years, we have in-depth knowledge of the market and deep-rooted relationships with key stakeholders. Gordon’s appointment further solidifies this, bringing a host of Scottish experience and a strong network.

“Not only is Gordon an expert in his field, he is passionate about sustainability, in particular the energy transition to which Scotland is on the right track to make a significant and meaningful contribution.

“We are delighted to welcome Gordon to the team and look forward to working with him to help shape sustainable futures across Scotland.”

Gordon added:

“This is an exciting time to be joining Turley, with an established team working on a varied and interesting pipeline of projects. We have a raft of new policies and procedures in Scotland arising from ongoing planning reform that will shape all development as we move toward net zero. I’m very much looking forward to working with clients and our team in meeting these challenges and helping deliver high quality developments that are of benefit to communities.”
