New Sustainability Service: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Embodied Carbon
Our Sustainability team is pleased to announce increased capabilities including Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Life Cycle Costing (LCC) and Embodied Carbon services.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a method used to assess the environmental impact of products used in construction, from raw materials, processing and transport, use and end of life disposal or recycling.
Developments seeking BREEAM certification often target credits within Mat 01 ‘Environmental Impacts from Construction Products – Building LCA’ as a cost-effective means of contributing to the required rating.
Emerging planning policy including the new London Plan and Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (GMSF) has introduced the requirement to assess embodied carbon in construction and demonstrate proposals to reduce these emissions. The UK Green Building Council’s recent ‘Defining Net Zero Carbon Building Framework’, for which Turley Sustainability was delighted to be a member of the expert panel, also covers embodied carbon as an option for new buildings seeking to be built and operated to zero carbon standards.
Given embodied carbon will become increasingly important over the coming years in pursuit of climate change targets, particularly as operational carbon is reduced, now is the time for the proper consideration of this issue and the significant opportunities for innovation that it brings.
We are proud to use One Click LCA software for our calculations.
We are able to offer these services immediately, for further information please contact Fiona Lomas.
