Brueacre Village on former Inverkip Power Station site granted permission in principle
Acting on behalf of ScottishPower, Turley has secured Planning Permission in Principle (PPP) from Inverclyde Council for the creation of 650 new homes, commercial space and community facilities in Inverkip, Scotland.
We provided expert Planning, Design, Heritage, Landscape and Economics services to ScottishPower on the Brueacre Village regeneration scheme, a substantial redevelopment which will transform the former Inverkip power station site.
The scheme will create a new community, giving a new lease of life to the site which has been vacant since the former power station was dismantled in 2014. The masterplan that accompanied the PPP application envisages a variety of housing types, offering options from two to five bedrooms.
The 100-acre site will also include extensive open spaces, including a public park with foot and cycle paths, which will create a place that promotes community, inclusivity and wellbeing for residents. Along the full length of the Firth of Clyde boundary, a linear coastal park will be created to provide further space for active recreational activities.
Commenting on the plans for the site during Planning Board consideration of the proposals, local councillor and Planning Board Chairman, Councillor David Wilson, said:
“I think I’ve been sitting in this chair for about 15 years now and this is probably the most exciting application that’s come in front of me in all that time. I think it’s really quite imaginative what has been done with a very old and really very worn-out industrial site.”
Alan Aitkenhead, ScottishPower’s Head of Estates, said:
“This is an exciting development opportunity that will support the regeneration and transformation of an extensive unused site, while removing a former fossil fuel asset from our property portfolio."
Kate Donald, Associate Director commented:
“We are really pleased to have been able to work with Inverclyde Council and ScottishPower to reach this milestone in the site’s regeneration. The development will bring this site into active use again, delivering a new community in a fantastic waterside setting.”
