Appointments from Turley’s Sustainability team to develop UK Net Zero Buildings Standard

Two members of our Sustainability team have been appointed to a cross-industry[1] initiative to develop the UK’s first Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard.

Whilst significant progress has been made in defining what ‘net zero’ means for buildings in the UK, a process of market analysis showed a clear demand for a single, agreed methodology. The UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard will enable the industry to robustly prove their built assets are net zero carbon and in line with our nation’s climate targets.

The Standard will be for anyone who wants to fund, procure or design a net zero carbon building. Performance targets will align with science-based trajectories to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Find out more here.

Snigdha Jain, Director of ESG who is appointed to the Top-Down Task Group, said:

“A taskforce focused on drilling performance from national level carbon budgets and science-based targets down to the individual real estate assets is definitely the need of the hour and where urgent focused action is required to mobilise capital linked to performance outcomes.”

Fiona Lomas-Holt, Associate Director is appointed to the Embodied Carbon Task Group, added:

“I am delighted with the level of industry engagement and enthusiasm within the Embodied Carbon Task Group. We are focused on developing guidance across a range of scenarios, including deep retrofit, refurbishments, extensions as well as new build.”

If you would like to understand more about the initiatives or discuss net zero across new developments or existing asset portfolios, please get in touch with Snigdha Jain or Fiona Lomas-Holt.
