Application submitted for mixed-use redevelopment of Crown Place, Woking
Acting on behalf of Watkin Jones Group and McKay Securities, we have submitted a planning application for the mixed-use redevelopment of Crown Place, Woking. The scheme is designed by architects Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher.
The development will provide 366 new homes, flexible retail use at ground floor, together with a purpose-designed two-storey community facility. A new public square will also be delivered, fronted by the community centre and retail units, connecting the site with the wider town centre via Commercial Way and a new route through the site will link to Chertsey Road.
The scheme comprises a residential tower together with a lower-level terrace fronting onto Chertsey Road and the Town Centre Conservation Area. The conservation area frontage is a contemporary reflection of the fine grain and arts & crafts character of Chertsey Road.
The new homes will be purpose-built for rent and will be operated by Five Nine Living, Watkin Jones’ experienced built to rent operator. The scheme has been designed to provide high quality homes and promote a sense of community for residents. The rented tenure will increase housing choice and accessibility within the town centre.
Associate Director, Oliver Jefferson said:
“We are delighted to have submitted this application for a high quality redevelopment of a tired site on the edge of Woking town centre, following positive engagement with Woking Borough Council. Turley has been extensively involved in the regeneration of Woking Town Centre and this scheme will be a significant new addition to complement the substantial investment of recent years.”
Kenny Oke, Development Director, Watkin Jones Group said:
“Watkin Jones is proud to put forward this carefully considered proposal for Crown Place. We have listened to the local community and Woking Borough Council and designed a scheme which will provide beneficial new town centre uses and a fantastic new community space, to accommodate community uses currently taking place on the site, whilst also providing new high quality homes for Woking.”
For more information on the project please contact Oliver Jefferson or Ben Wrighton. Woking Borough Council will consult on the proposals and is due to make a decision in February 2020.
