Our role
- The King’s Hall, a listed building, and its surrounding lands were formerly an underutilised urban space. We secured outline planning permission in 2021 for a healthcare-led redevelopment of the site.
- We prepared and submitted a reserved matters application for the 552-space multi-storey car park to serve the site, ground floor retail/gym/café uses and an expansive landscaped plaza.
- We worked proactively with Council Officers, including facilitating a joint site visit, and carefully considered the approved design code for the masterplan to ensure a high-quality design that would secure approval.
Results
- Through our extensive knowledge of the planning history and evolution of the site, strong working relationships with planning officers, and a collaborative, problem-solving approach we progressed the application to approval, with it being granted by Belfast City Council’s planning committee in less than five months from submission.
- The creation of a new public realm area will greatly enhance the public space offering in the local area, supported by footfall from the new ground-floor commercial units.
- The multi-storey car park unlocks the final phases of the redevelopment of the wider site and has been designed to provide visual interest and protect the setting of the listed building.
