The Paterson Redevelopment Project is now a world-class research facility which is transforming the ability to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer through the co-location of clinicians and scientists in a single building, an approach known as Team Science, placing Manchester at the forefront of global health innovation
The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres and the largest single-site cancer centre in Europe. Based in Manchester, it provides specialist cancer treatment, research and education, serving patients from across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and the wider UK. The Christie is internationally recognised for its pioneering treatments, research partnerships and commitment to improving cancer outcomes.
Integrated delivery
- Our multi-service team successfully delivered on complex planning applications, including the world-renowned Proton Beam Therapy Centre at The Christie.
- Developed a Strategic Planning Framework (SPF) to guide the replacement building and support the detailed planning application.
- Managed the preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
- Delivered a comprehensive stakeholder engagement programme that generated widespread support across local communities and key stakeholders.
- Secured endorsement of the Strategic Planning Framework (SPF) by Manchester City Council's Executive in July 2019.
- Developed the strategic economic case and ‘Case for Team Science’, demonstrating the project's unique benefits for patients, local communities and the Greater Manchester economy.
- Worked alongside The Christie and its partners to provide a robust evidence base supporting the scientific and economic justification for the scheme.
- Successfully secured planning consent for The Paterson Redevelopment Project in September 2019.
- Contributed to the delivery of a world-class research facility, opened in 2024, that brings clinicians and scientists together under the pioneering ‘Team Science’ model to advance cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
