DPD Docklands, Bromley-by-Bow
£40m hub powers 80,000 all-electric London deliveries a day
The new Docklands facility enables DPD's final-mile delivery operation within London's North and South Circular area to become fully electric, representing a significant step towards decarbonising urban logistics. The development will also create around 650 new jobs
Rethinking parcel distribution
The innovative hybrid sortation and distribution centre combines parcel handling and delivery operations within a single facility.
A 430-metre state-of-the-art conveyor system will sort all intra-London parcels on-site, removing the need for many parcels to be transported to the Midlands for processing before returning to London. This reduces vehicle movements and improves operational efficiency.
From concept to recognition
Delivering a pioneering urban logistics facility that combines operational innovation, sustainability and planning excellence.
Rather than developing a new facility from scratch, the scheme involved the substantial retrofit of an existing warehouse. The site incorporates solar panels, infrastructure for 500 electric delivery vans and a 40,000-litre HVO fuel tank to support a diesel-free operation.
We led the planning process through both pre- and post-submission stages, undertaking extensive engagement with the Local Planning Authority and local stakeholders. Working closely with the project team, we helped demonstrate the wider economic and environmental benefits of the scheme, despite the proposal resulting in a technical net loss of employment floorspace.
The completed scheme has been shortlisted for the New London Architecture (NLA) Awards 2025 in the Industrial & Logistics category, recognising its innovative approach to sustainable urban logistics.
