Our role
- Our expert Planning team led pre-application engagement with the Local Planning Authority in respect of the extension of teaching space and the alteration of external play areas at Brentwood High School & Sixth Form College in Sale, Trafford, which provides specialist teaching and learning facilities for young people with SLD, PMLD, autism and complex needs.
- We co-ordinated the preparation and submission of an application for full planning permission. Throughout the project, we developed strong working relationships with Planning Officers and statutory consultees.
- We have subsequently advised on the discharge of all planning conditions attached to the permission, as well as minor variations to the scheme (secured via S73 and S96a).
Results
- We successfully secured consent within the statutory 13-week determination period, supported by the positive working relationship established with Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council. The proposed extension provides a further 80no. pupil places at school, taking the total capacity to 200no. pupils.
- Our post-approval involvement secured additional tree planting and better design to improve the quantum of on-site biodiversity units, safety and accessibility of the school to support the needs of the pupils and staff members.
- The extension has now been completed and became operational in September 2025, welcoming the first cohort of additional students.
