Turley secures approval for University of Greenwich’s Devonport House project
We provided expert Planning, Strategic Communications, Heritage & Townscape, Economics, Sustainability and EIA services to the University of Greenwich, receiving unanimous approval from the Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG) Planning Board on proposals for the Devonport House project on Tuesday 11 March.
The vote to approve the Devonport House project follows the University of Greenwich’s multi-year community and stakeholder engagement programme, co-ordinated by our Strategic Communications team, which ensured that the final proposals reflect community needs and feedback.
The university and RBG planning department are now working to finalise a Section 106 Agreement. Once this is completed, the university expects to commence on-site works and will provide regular updates on project progress, and provide a point of contact for engagement throughout construction. We are continuing to support the university throughout these next project stages.
The Devonport House project would see the restoration and revitalisation of the grade II listed Devonport House and its immediate surroundings. This would mean the creation of accessible spaces within Devonport House for community use, new and enhanced routes and access into and through the World Heritage Site, and green landscaped open space to enjoy – along with reduced local vehicular traffic.
Recognising the heritage significance of the campus and surrounds, the Devonport House project has been carefully crafted to respect and enhance the World Heritage Site in close collaboration with the World Heritage Site Steering Group, Greater London Archaeology Advisory Service (GLAAS) and other key heritage stakeholders.
The project would enable the university to continue providing industry-leading, world class education in a state-of-the-art building that responds to modern standards and methods of teaching.
Mark Underwood, Senior Director, Head of London said:
“Our multi-disciplinary team is delighted to have supported the University of Greenwich in securing approval for the Devonport House project. This landmark project will transform the campus whilst complementing the World Heritage Site.”
