Generating enough electricity for 37,000 homes
The project
- Turley was appointed to project manage the preparation and submission of a planning application for a new biomass fuelled renewable energy plant adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal in Trafford.
- We provided strategic planning advice and led the preparation of an Environmental Statement to support the application.
- We were a member of the team involved in the community consultation and engagement.
Contribution to meeting UNSDGs
- Goal 12 seeks to substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse, and encourage companies, especially large and transnational companies, to adopt sustainable practices.
- The Barton Renewable Energy plant will deploy the latest technology and be fuelled primarily by recycled wood. About 200,000 tonnes of biomass would be consumed annually. The facility will also utilise a proportion of solid recovered fuel thereby reducing the levels of waste sent to landfill.
