Conservation-led restoration and upgrade of the former Fort Dunree military site
Our role
- The Fort Dunree Project seeks to deliver an enhanced iconic tourism destination at a spectacular ‘Discovery Point’ location along the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’.
- We are providing Planning and EIA services as part of the multi-disciplinary design team and our role/outputs to date have included:
» Advising on statutory Planning and EIA requirements and related matters.
» Informing strategy in respect of site-specific considerations including drainage, built heritage, natural heritage, coastal setting and transportation.
» Undertaking EIA Screening during the concept development/refinement stage and planning application stage.
» Producing a Planning Report to demonstrate the project’s compliance with the prevailing and relevant national, regional and local planning policy context.
» Preparing the statutory notices and the statutory notifications to prescribed bodies.
Results
- EIA Screening advice stood up to scrutiny/review by An Bord Pleanála.
- An Bord Pleanála agreed with our conclusions that the proposals would not be likely to have significant effects on the environment and that an EIAR would not be required.
- Submission of a valid S177AE application directly to An Bord Pleanála in August 2024 in line with the client’s requirements.
