Turley confirmed as part of partnership as University of Greenwich announces team for Devonport House Project

The University of Greenwich has appointed several expert partners to help realise its vision for the Devonport House Project on its Greenwich Campus.

We will be providing expert Planning, Strategic Communications, Heritage & Townscape and EIA services to the University of Greenwich, who plan to transform Devonport House and the area immediately surrounding it, to provide cutting-edge teaching and learning facilities, create new space for the wider community, and restore an existing listed building.

The university’s vision for the project is to restore and revitalise the grade II listed Devonport House, repairing and reinstating the key listed features of the original building. A focus point of this work will be to create a highly efficient and sustainable new building that respects the heritage and character of the World Heritage Site.

The project will also enhance the area around the campus to improve access to and through the World Heritage Site, create indoor and outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy, and deliver substantial economic and social benefits to the Greenwich community.

The project is part of the University of Greenwich’s estate modernisation and renewal programme, which aims to provide modern, state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities that respect the heritage, character and locations of campus surroundings.

The University of Greenwich will be launching a public engagement programme on the proposals for the Devonport House Project on 2 September 2024, with two public consultation events being held on Saturday 14 September and Wednesday 18 September.

To ensure that the Devonport House Project delivers on this vision for the university, the community and the World Heritage Site, every partner has been carefully selected based on their experience of similar projects and ability to demonstrate how they can deliver the University of Greenwich’s vision for Devonport House.

Professor Jane Harrington, Vice Chancellor of the University of Greenwich said:

“We are pleased to be progressing with this project that will greatly enhance the experience of our students. We look forward to continuing to work with partners to deliver the best space that benefits our staff students and partners as well as the wider Greenwich community.”

Turley has been appointed to lead the Planning, Strategic Communications, Heritage & Townscape, and EIA services for the Devonport House Project. We will work to ensure the needs and views of the local community are reflected throughout the planning process, and that the proposals respect and complement the World Heritage Site.

Mark Underwood, Senior Director, Head of London said:

“Our multi-disciplinary team is delighted to be working with the University of Greenwich on this landmark project, sensitively transforming the campus and world heritage site into a building and space better used by the university and community alike.”
