Plans submitted to deliver new homes at former Tooting Police Station

On behalf of Telereal Trillium, Turley has submitted a full planning application to the London Borough of Merton which seeks to breathe life back into the vacant former Tooting Police Station.

We provided expert Planning and Heritage services for building owner Telereal Trillium, who put forward plans to bring the grade II listed building back into use, creating 62 new 1,2 and 3-bedroom homes on Mitcham Road.

Following consultation with the local community and key stakeholders, proposals for a ‘heritage-led redevelopment’ will protect and enhance the building's historic features. After extensive investigations into the unique architecture and past of the property, Telereal Trillium has committed to retaining key characteristics including, but not exclusively, repairs to the most significant original materials and features. These include the refurbishment of the dome room and the refurbishment and retention of the historic internal staircases. Modern wall partitions and suspended ceilings will be removed to help return the building to its former glory.

Plans for the site, vacated by the Metropolitan Police in November 2020 and given protected listed status by Historic England in May 2021, include landscaping improvements at the front of the building, as well as new non-residential spaces and enhanced accessibility.
