Draft London Plan 2026: Shaping London's future growth

The Mayor of London launched the Draft London Plan 2026 on 16 July 2026 – the long-awaited updated strategic policy document that has been the focus of growing calls for reform to address the development, housing and growth challenges facing the Capital.

The publication of the Draft London Plan[1] marks a significant shift in London's planning framework since the adoption of the 2021 London Plan. At its core, the draft Plan seeks to place greater emphasis on housing delivery, economic growth, infrastructure investment and implementation, while setting out a vision for how London can accommodate growth over the next decade and beyond.

From Green Belt release to affordable housing, industrial capacity, innovation and infrastructure, the draft Plan introduces a range of proposed changes that will shape the future of development across London. It also raises important questions about deliverability, investment, infrastructure funding and whether the proposed reforms go far enough to address London's long-standing challenges.
