Turley is officially a Silver Carbon Literate Organisation

We are delighted to announce that we have been accredited as a Silver Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) by the UN-recognised Carbon Literacy Project.

This prestigious accreditation recognises our commitment to upskill our people to play a proactive role in reducing our organisational carbon emissions, and work towards a zero carbon future.

Carbon Literacy is defined as “An awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis,” and is delivered via a day’s worth of learning and commitment to embed action into daily activities.

Our Carbon Literacy training programme has been delivered by Lighthouse Sustainability.

To become accredited as a Silver Carbon Literate Organisation, we trained 34.5% of our co-owners from across the organisation in Carbon Literacy. As a result of learning from the training, and supported by our Sustainability and ESG team and Head of ESG, Snigdha Jain, we have made several positive company level changes including:

  • The introduction of PIN-protected printing and automatic deletion of unreleased print jobs which has saved approximately 31,000 sheets of paper while also reducing associated energy consumption.
  • An IT recycling initiative that saved the equivalent of 19 tonnes of carbon emissions
  • Maintaining year-on-year reductions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, supported by energy saving initiatives and more sustainable property decisions
  • Growing our ‘Green Team’ creating more advocates for climate action across the business

Being accredited as a Silver Carbon Literate Organisation is an important achievement for us as a responsible employee-owned business committed to managing and minimising our environmental impacts. It also:

  • Equips our people to identify inefficiencies, reduce unnecessary energy use, and optimise resource management in their day-to-day activities.
  • Fosters a culture where low-carbon action is the norm, driving measurable reductions across our departments, operations, and value chain.
  • Provides a clear signal to partners, clients, and the wider community that we take sustainability seriously.
  • Gives us a stronger voice in shaping a low-carbon future for our industry.

Speaking about the accreditation, Chrysta Poppitt, Senior Director said:

“We couldn’t be prouder to be a Silver Carbon Literate Organisation. We began our Carbon Literacy journey in 2022, gaining Bronze accreditation in 2023 and we aren’t stopping at Silver, with ambitions to achieve Gold accreditation by 2028.

As a responsible business we’re committed to embedding Carbon Literacy not only within our workplace and processes, but individually for our people too – upskilling and empowering co-owners to make responsible choices.”
