Sustainable regeneration of Urlingford town centre, Co. Kilkenny

Our role

• We were appointed by Kilkenny County Council to prepare the Urlingford Masterplan, which sets a sustainable vision for future development in Urlingford, in line with national, regional and local planning policy.
• We provided a multi-disciplinary integrated approach to the creation of the masterplan, with our team providing the following services Project Management, Planning, Landscape, Economics and Strategic Communications.
• We carried out a stakeholder engagement workshop in Urlingford to provide an opportunity for local people and stakeholder to explore and develop ideas for the masterplan.

Results

• The masterplan sets out an overall vision, strategy and most significantly, commitment to proper planning and sustainable development in Urlingford.
• The masterplan positively address key issues and challenges in Urlingford and sets a new benchmark for public realm and town centre design, transforming Urlingford into a prosperous settlement and enabling it to realise its full potential.
• The masterplan is informed not only by quantitative data, but also through information and ideas gathered from local community and stakeholders. Through the stakeholder workshop event and Town Team Workshops, the local community have been able to shape their town’s masterplan document.
• The document dually outlines placemaking ideas but also demonstrates funding streams that will ensure that the ideas are financially viable.
• The document is the first specific planning and development document for Urlingford and provides a valuable long-term and in-depth planning, environmental, socio-economic and cultural analysis of the town.
